What is Kybella?
Kybella is a non-surgical FDA approved prescription medicine. This injectable has been proven in clinical trials to substantially improve the appearance of submental fat in adults. During a treatment session, one of our medical team members may apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area to minimize any discomfort you may experience from the injections. Dr. Lauren carefully marks specific injection sites on the area just below the chin. The specific number of injections during each treatment session varies from patient to patient. In most cases, optimal results emerge after 2 to 4 treatment sessions. However, it is possible for some patients to need as many as 6 treatments for optimal results.
How Does It Work?
Kybella’s active ingredient is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid naturally occurs in your body. It is what your body uses to absorb dietary fat. Kybella is injected into the submental fat and destroys the fat cells. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they no longer can store fat beneath your chin. These dead cells are eventually absorbed into your body, and they are removed through your body’s natural fat removal process. Kybella can produce dramatic results. Most patients see less fullness beneath their skin and an improvement in their chin’s profile.
Is It Safe?
Yes, Kybella has been thoroughly reviewed and tested by the FDA. The process has been used successfully in the United States for many years. As with any procedure, there is minor risk of side effects. These include:
