Kybella Baltimore

Patients at our Baltimore, Maryland practice frequently mention a double chin as one of the primary concerns about their appearance. Kybella is a breakthrough, nonsurgical treatment that is approved by the FDA to reduce the fat that causes a double chin. It offers a safe and effective alternative to neck liposuction, which had been the only option for men and women in Baltimore before Kybella.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is a non-surgical FDA approved prescription medicine. This injectable has been proven in clinical trials to substantially improve the appearance of submental fat in adults. It has been shown to work in individuals with moderate and even severe fat under their chin. As of this date, the FDA has only approved the use of Kybella for the submental area. It has not been approved for use on any other part of the body or on individuals who are younger than 18 years old.

Kybella Treatments

Your consultation with Dr. Lauren is the basis for your customized treatment plan. Based on a physical exam and your stated aesthetic goal, Dr. Lauren will recommend the number of Kybella injections and treatment sessions she believes are necessary to get you there.

During a treatment session, one of our medical team members may apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area to minimize any discomfort you may experience from the injections. Dr. Lauren carefully marks specific injection sites on the area just below the chin. The specific number of injections during each treatment session varies from patient to patient. In most cases, optimal results emerge after 2 to 4 treatment sessions. However, it is possible for some patients to need as many as 6 treatments for optimal results.

How Does It Work?

Kybella’s active ingredient is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid naturally occurs in your body. It is what your body uses to absorb dietary fat. Kybella is injected into the submental fat and destroys the fat cells. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they no longer can store fat beneath your chin. These dead cells are eventually absorbed into your body, and they are removed through your body’s natural fat removal process. Kybella can produce dramatic results. Most patients see less fullness beneath their skin and an improvement in their chin’s profile.

Is It Safe?

Yes, Kybella has been thoroughly reviewed and tested by the FDA. The process has been used successfully in the United States for many years. As with any procedure, there is minor risk of side effects. These include:

  • Bruising
  • Numbness
  • Swelling
  • Pain

Most of these side effects should clear up on their own a few days after your treatment. During your initial consultation, we will be happy to answer any questions you have about this procedure.
